- Currently (2008) approximately 37 million refugees have been registered worldwide - 13 million have escaped to another country while 24 million are internally displaced in their own country

- Additionally millions of refugees live illegally all over the world. Hence the actual count of refugees is unknown

- Civil wars and human rights abuses forced 3 million people, over 8,000 a day, to leave their homes and seek refuge elsewhere within their countries in 2004

- In 2006 UNHCR registered 460 urban locations and 305 refugee camps globally. On average the population-size of one camp was 8,800 individuals. 25% of the camps hosted more than 10.000 refugees

- Refugees United was founded by the brothers David and Christopher after their personal experience with helping a young Afghan refugee relocate his younger brother

- Refugees United is not about physical reunification. The aim is to let refugees find each other in cyberspace, thus relieving them of the torture of uncertainty
